What is a CMS

In short

A CMS, or content management system, is software that lets you add and change website content without writing code. Well-known ones include WordPress, Shopify and Webflow.

Without a CMS, every text change would need a developer working in code. With a CMS you add pages, change prices and write articles yourself through a simple admin panel.

Different systems fit different needs: WordPress for content-heavy sites, Shopify for online stores, a headless CMS for modern Next.js projects.

Why a CMS matters

The CMS decides how easily you can run the site yourself. A good CMS means you do not depend on a developer for every small edit. A poor fit turns a simple change into a chore.
